Iran is located between Central Asia and Middle East and the country is sharing borders with Azerbaijan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Armenia, Turkey and Turkmenistan. The country is also situated between the Caspian Sean, Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. Iran is a country of deserts and mountains and with huge oil reserves to the southwest of the country. In the year 1979, Iran became the Islamic republic after the exile of Shah but the ultimate decision will be taken by Ayatollah Khamenei who is the Supreme leader and the highest authority of religious matters. Khamenei makes the final decision on all policies of Iran such as foreign, security and domestic.

 

The main religion of Iran is Islam which is divided mainly in to Sunni and Shia. But official religion of the country is Shia Islam. Iran provides freedom to worship for religions such as Zoroastrians, Jews and Christians. Iran is one among the largest countries all over world and is in the eighteenth place. Iran also enjoys eighteenth place all over the globe in terms of economy. Iran has the world ranking of second for natural gas reserves and third place for having oil reserves. The official language of Iran is Persian and other tribal and regional languages are also used for communication.    

 

The highest peak in the country is the Mount Damavand. Wildlife of Iran constitute of various species of animals that includes wolves, wild pigs, bears, panthers, foxes, Eurasian lynx, jackals and gazelles. Some of the native species of Iran are falcon, eagles, pheasant, partridge and stork. Iran rates the highest among the world in terms of urban population. Tehran is the capital city and the largest city with highest population among the Iranian cities. Some of the other major cities of Iran are Isfahan, Mashhad, Tabriz, Karaj, Shiraz, Ahvaz and Qom.  

 

Iran is well known for its culture, art, architecture, cuisines and heritage spots. Iran is popular for its artistic traditions and talent in the history of the world. Some of the artistic disciplines are calligraphy, metalworking, painting, architecture, pottery, stone masonry and weaving. Plenty of tourist spots are there in the country which is worth seeing. You can enjoy the diversity in the landscapes that consist of rivers, deserts and mountains. You can find the reminiscences of ancient civilization. Some of the historical sites listed in World Heritage Sites by UNESCO are Tchogha Zabnil, Persepolis, Meidan-e-Emam, Takht-e-Soleyman, Pasargadae, Bam, Soltaniyeh, Armenian Monastic Ensembles, Shushtar Waterfalls and Bisotun.

 

Dizin ski resort is situated in the north of Tehran in Alborz mountain range. The season of this ski resort will last longer when compared to Europe’s ski resorts. Chabahar beaches are popular destination for any kind of water sports and entertainment. Caspian Coast is famous for its beautiful scenery with mountains and rivers. Another famous tourist destination is the Kish Island beaches which is safe for fishing and swimming.  Lake Urmia is a tourist spot which has several islands inhabited by wild animals and birds. Quran Gateway to Shiraz is recognized as the great historical monument with three arches. Two copies of Holy Quran are kept inside the Quran Gateway.
