Albania is situated in the South Eastern Europe and the country is bordered by Kosovo, Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Greece. Albania’s history begins from prehistoric age and the territory was under the rule of Roman Empire till 7th century. The territory was then integrated into Bulgarian Empire in 9th century. During the Middle Ages, the Kingdom of Albania formed and the country was under the control of Ottoman Empire from 15th century to 1912. In 1912, Albania was declared as an independent state. The country became the communist state after Axis powers collapsed. In 1991, Republic of Albania formed after the collapse of communist regime in 1990.
Albania has a democratic parliamentary system in which President is the head of the state. Executive power of the country is vested on the government and the legislative power is taken care by both parliament and government. Highest court of appeal is the Court of Cassation. According to the western European standards, Albania is considered as the poor country. Albania shows the potential of economic growth. The country has rich natural resources and the economy of the country depends on annual remittances of emigrants, agriculture and services. Natural resources of the country are petroleum, natural gas, copper, iron ore and copper.
The population of Albania is 2,8 million and the country is ethnically homogenous. Majority of the population consist of Albanians and minority population include Serbs, Bulgarian, Vlachs, Montenegrins, Greeks, Macedonians, Balkan, Roma, Jews, Egyptians and Balkan. The official language of the country is Albanian and majority of the people are talking Albanian. The two major dialects of Albanian language are Tosk and Gheg. Other languages spoken are Macedonian, Serbian, Armenian, Bulgarian, Romani and Gorani. Most of the Albanians know Italian and English fluently. There is no official religion in Albania. Major religions of the country are Christianity and Islam.
Tirana is the capital of the country and it is also the largest city of Albania. Tirana is a commercial, cultural and industrial center. Dajti Mountain is situated in the capital and you can also find a castle ruins dated back to 1st century BC. Some of the destinations of the capital city are Market Sanderberg, National Museum of History, Ethem Bey Mosque, Fortress and Clock Tower. Durres is a port city with historical importance and the port was founded by the native tribes. This port city consists of tourist attractions such as Palace of King Ahmet Zoh, Roman Amphitheatre and Archaeological Museum, Roman Amphitheater, Currilave ruins and a beach.
Shkoder is a famous tourist destination, situating on the lake which is having the same name. Shkoder offers numerous historic monuments, cathedrals, churches and museum to the tourists here. Elbasa is an old fortress of first century and the walls of the fort were not built till 4th century. You can visit Voskopoja Mountain to enjoy the beautiful landscape surrounding it. Thethi Park is a national park worth visiting. Butrint is a world heritage site as well as a museum city. Some of the tourist destinations located along the ocean is divjaka, Valona and divjaka.
