India is located in South Asia and it is the seventh largest nation in the world in terms of geographical area. India is also the second populous country in the world with more than 1.2 billion people. It is the most populous democratic country of the world. Mainland of India is a peninsula surrounded by oceans on three sides such as Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The country is bordered by Bhutan, Pakistan, China, Bangladesh and Burma. Lakshadweep Islands and Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also the part of the country. Lakshadweep Islands are situated near Maldives and Sri Lanka whereas Andaman and Nicobar Islands shares maritime borders with Sumatra and Thailand.
India is the home of ancient the great Indus Valley Civilization. It was also the country of vast empire and historic trade routes. India was colonized by the British from the middle of the 19th century and the country gained full independence in the year 1947. India gained independence after a non-violence struggle under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi who is later recognized as the Father of the Nation. The geography of India is divided in to three according to the naval charts such as 46% of marshy coasts, 43% of sandy beaches and 11% of rocky coast which includes cliffs.
India is the parliamentary republic with multi-party system. According to the constitution of India, it is the socialist, sovereign, secular and democratic republic. Head of the state is President and head of the government is Prime Minister who has the executive power. Executive power is vested on President, Vice-President and Council of Ministers headed by Prime Minister. The Legislative power is represented by the bicameral Parliament which includes Upper House and Lower House. Judiciary is independent from other two powers.
India is one among the fastest growing economies of the world. It has the eleventh largest economy and fourth largest purchasing power parity. Indian economy depends on agriculture and industries. Majority of the population is following Hinduism and other religions in India are Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism and Jainism. Two major language families in India are Dravidian and Indo-Aryan. Other language families are Tibeto-Burman and Austro-Asiatic. Each state and Union Territory has their own official language. Tourism is becoming popular in India and India also has a medical tourism industry. India has innumerable number of tourist destination in each state.

Taj Mahal in Agra is the most popular destination of India which is one among the Seven Wonders of the World. Some of the north Indian tourist spots are Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Golden Temple, Jama Masjid, Hawa Mahal, Jaisalmar Fort and Himalayas. Goa and Pondicherry are famous tourist destinations where you can find sandy beaches and ancient buildings. Enjoy the hill stations and backwaters of the Kerala state. You can also enjoy several wildlife sanctuaries such as Periyar wildlife sanctuary, Corbett National Park and Kasiranga wildlife sanctuary.
