Jordan is officially known as Kingdom of Jordan or Jordanian Kingdom. Jordan is located in the Middle-East on the banks of Jordan River. Jordan is bordered by Iraq, Syria, Israel and Saudi Arabia. The only port of Jordan is situated at Gulf of Aqaba which shared by Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel. Majority of the country consists of Arabian Desert and Amman is the capital of the country. Jordan was the home of several civilizations such as Cannanites, Moabites and Edomites. Other civilizations that influence Jordan politically are Babylonian, Persian, Israelite, Akkadian and Assyrian empires. Jordan is also the part of the region which was considered as “the cradle of civilization”.

Major cities of Jordan are Amman, Jerash, Zerqa, Irbid, Madaba, Aqaba and Karak. Jordan has a population of more than 5 million. Among the population 93% are of Jordanian citizens and 7% are of non-Jordanian citizens. Most of the non-Arabs consist of Chechens, Circassians, Turkmans, Gypsies and Armenians. Major religion of Jordan is Islam and most of them are of Sunni Muslims. Jordan allows religious freedom to its citizens. English and Arabic are the official languages of Jordan. Jordanian Levantine is the spoken language of the country.

The power of the country is in the hands of the King. The country supports constitutional monarchy with a government to represent. Even though the King is the supreme power, elected parliament also has influence in the power of national governance. All the laws are signed and executed by the king and the veto power of the king can be overruled by two-third of the vote from both houses of the Assembly. Tourism plays an important role in the economy of Jordan which contributes 10-12% of the economy. The country’s geography offers attractive tourist destinations. Some of the major tourist spots in Jordan are unique desert castles, natural locations and several ancient places.

Jordan is also famous for its nightlife with nightclubs, bars and discotheques in Aqaba, Irbid and Amman. Jordan has traditional options of nightlife such as street cafes and shisha lounges. Several concerts and raves are also hosted by the country such as Petra Prana Festival of 2007 which was celebrated for selecting Petra as one among the New Seven Wonders of the World. Petra is an enormous natural amphitheater made of rocks which was hidden for several years and restored in 1812. Dead Sea is another attraction in Jordan. Irbid is a tourist spot with Roman statues and tombs.

Aqaba is a popular tourist destination of Jordan with many sightseeing places. Aqaba Fort is a 14th century fort and you can also enjoy some activities like scuba diving and diving. Kerak is a tourist spot with Kerak Archaelogical Museum, Kerak castle and Citadel of Kerak. Jerash is an ancient city which was under Roman rule and the site preserves some of the provincial Roman towns. Wadi Rum is another famous tourist spot which is a desert with hills and mountains. You can also find churches built around 18th as well as 19th century in Fuheis.
