Martinique is located on Caribbean Sea surrounded by Barbados, St. Lucia and Dominica. Martinique is the overseas territory of France and considered as the part of France. The original inhabitants of the island are Carib and Arawak tribes. French came in to the island in 1635 and settled there. Fort-de-France is the administrative center of Martinique and country’s representative of its region is Prefect. Prefect is appointed by the President of France taking the recommendation of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. There are several mountains in Martinique and the highest among them is Mount Pelee, a volcanic mountain. The volcanic ash of this volcano has created black and grey sandy beached in north.

The population of the island is 376,480 according to the census of 2016. Among the population, 90% of the people are African and African-white-Indian mixture and the remaining population consist of white, Indian Tamil and Chinese. Majority of the people are following Christianity and 95% of Christians are Roman Catholic. Other religions are Pagan African and Hindu. French is the official language of Martinique but majority of the inhabitants speaks Antillean Creole. The culture of Martinique is a mixture of Caribbean and French. The island has a high standard of living than other countries in the Caribbean.

Tourism plays a major role in the economy of Martinique. Several beaches are there in the island that attracts tourists from different countries. The island is mountainous that offers great many things to photographers and other tourists. Fort-de-France is picturesque and beautiful where you can find narrow streets of old town with balconies made of wrought iron and shuttered windows. St. Pierre is another beautiful city also called as ‘Pearl of Caribbean’ has many tourist attractions such as Musee Volcanologique, historic buildings, special submarines with glass window to watch the ship wreck and fish that swim in the ocean.

Zoo du Carbet situated at Le Carbet houses African, Amazonian and Caribbean animals and the Carbet’s Botanical Garden is also another attraction where you can see the Valley of Butterflies. Le Precheur is a village where you can find volcanic springs and Tomb of Carib Indians. You can also enjoy bathing in beaches such as Les Anses d’Arlets, Le Diamant and St. Anne. You can enjoy your trip to St Anne by exploring the peninsulas, white sand beaches and bays there. Clement House is a popular Plantation Home in Caribbean.

Diamond Rock is also a tourist rock which was used by British for defense but now it is a diving spot and favorite of scuba divers. Enjoy the drive up to the mountains through the picturesque landscape in Route de la Trace. Banana Museum will provide you more information on bananas from harvesting to the process of packing. Macouba is an old tobacco town where you will get great views of mountains and seas. Jardin de Balata is a garden consists of several tropical plants and the garden is located in a Balata. Tartane is a fishing village where you can for surfing.
