Serbia is situated in between Central Europe and Southeast Europe. The country is landlocked by Romania, Bulgaria, Republic of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia and Albania. Belgrade is the capital city of Serbia. Vinca and Starcevo cultures are the prehistoric cultures of Serbia during 6400-6200BC. Several states were formed by the Serbs after their arrival to the region in the 7th century. In the 14th century, Serbian Empire was formed and Ottoman Empire conquered the country during 16th century. The country was re-established as constitutional monarchy in 1878 after Serbian revolution. In 1918, Serbia joined with Croats and Slovenes leading to the formation of Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

In 1941, Yugoslavia divided and Serbia came under the administration of German Military. Second Yugoslavia was formed after Second World War and Serbia was the part of Yugoslavia until 2006. In 2006, Serbia gained independence and became the republic. Serbia is a parliamentary republic in which head of the government is the Prime Minister, and head of the state is the President. Executive power is controlled by the government, and legislative power is controlled by the National Assembly of Serbia. Judicial system is independent from executive and legislative powers. The economy of Serbia is a market economy that depends up on services, industry and agriculture.

The population of Serbia is 7 million, and the major ethnic group of Serbia is Serbs which consists of 83% of the population. Other ethnic groups of Serbia are Hungarians, Bosniaks, Roma, Croats, Albanians, Bulgarians, Slovaks, Vlachs, Chinese, Montenegrins, Romanians and Macedonians. Serbia is a religiously diverse country in which Orthodox Christianity is the dominant religion. Other religious groups of the country are Islam, Judaism, Protestants and Catholics. The official language of Serbia is Serbian. Other languages used in the country are Serbian, Romanian, Slovak, Croatian, Rusyn and Hungarian.

Belgrade, the capital of Serbia is an oldest city in Europe. Vinca archaeological sites and the monasteries in Belgrade are worth seeing. Sopocani and Studenica are the two important monasteries of Belgrade. Cathedral of St. Sava in Belgrade is a famous destination with its dome of 70 meters height and the cross is of 12 meters in height. Sar Mountain of Balkans is a great destination with its peaks and lakes. Vrsac Mountains has some interesting sites such as Gudurika Peak, Lower Vrsisor and Tower of Vrsac. The mountains consist of wildlife species such as deer, grey, red fox and wild boars.

Lake Ludas is a famous destination for birdwatchers as there are about 214 species of birds present at the lake. Stara Planina is the Balkan mountain range with 20 passes and two gorges. Novi Sad is another old town in the country with numerous churches, several archways and pubs. Maglic Fortress is famous medieval fortresses of Serbia which was constructed in 13th century. Novi Beograd is among the most visited destinations of the country. Some of the popular tourist spots of Novi Beograd are Museum of Contemporary Art, Usce Tower and Sajmiste Concentration Camp. Tara Mountain area is famous for its pristine forests, Drina River and wildlife species.
