Zambia is located in Southern Africa and this landlocked country is bordered by Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi, Angola and Namibia. Lusaka is the capital city of Zambia and the population of the country is concentrated in the capital. Zambia was inhabited by hunter-gatherers till 300 AD. The Bantu speaking people immigrated to Zambia during 12th century and European travelers started coming to the country in during 18th century. At the end of 19th century, Zambia became the colony of British. The country got independence from the British in the year 1964. Zambia derived its name from River Zambezi.

Zambia is a presidential republic and Zambia’s head of the state was Kenneth Kaunda from independence to 1991. Kenneth Kaunda was from United Nation Independence Party and this was the only legal party of Zambia from 1972-1991. Then from 1991-2002, the country was governed by Frederick Chiluba of Movement of Multi-Party Democracy. During this time the country has faced social-economic growth and decentralization of the government. The third president of Zambia is Levy Mwanawas who came to power from 2002-2008. At present the president of the country is Rupiah Banda. Underemployment and unemployment are the major problems of the country. The economy of the country mainly depends on construction, beverages, textiles, horticulture, chemicals, fertilizers and copper mining.

The total population of Zambia is around 12 million and there are seventy two ethnic groups in Zambia of which most of them are speaking Bantu. The major ethnic groups are Lunda, Nyanja-Chewa, Tumbuka, Tonga, Bemba, Luvale, Nkoya, Kaonde and Lozi. Europeans in Zambia are mainly South Africans or British. Asian population in the country consists of Chinese and Indians. English is the official language of Zambia. Some of the other languages used in the country are Nyanja, Bemba and several indigenous languages. The country’s official religion is Christianity as about 87% of the people are Christians. Other religions found in the country are Islam, Baha’i and Jewish.

Victoria Falls is the major attraction of Zambia. Lusaka, the capital city has several attractions such as recreational village, Environmental Education Centre and Botanical Gardens. Soweto Market of Lusaka is a place where you can buy any items from beans to clothes. Tourists can also buy engine parts, traditional medicines and bicycle repair from the marker. Munda Wanga Environmental Park of Lusaka has a variety of wild life. Chipata is a place where you can find several attractions such as Kulamba, Kanjala Hills and Central Mosque.

Livingstone Museum of Zambia is the famous museum of the world. Ngonye Falls of the country is an excellent tourist spot. Lake Tanganyika is a famous tourist attraction of Zambia. Ndola is the capital city of Copperbelt region in Zambia and the place has a famous fast food restaurant and one screen movie theatre. You can enjoy wild life of Zambia at Kafue National Park, Lower Zambezi National Park and South Luangwa National Park. Other famous attractions are Batoka Gorge, Luangwa River and Zambezi River. Zambia tours also include walking safaris, canoeing safaris and bird watching.
