The Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is a wonderful retreat for tired minds and souls. Surrounded by the mystic beauty of the Namib Desert, the lodge lets you enjoy its splendour from its lavish and artistic suites. The Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is a property nestled in the desert itself, and is flanked by a lush oasis on one side and the formidable dunes on the other. To its south is the NamibRand Natural Reserve, 26 km from the Sesriem. At the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge nature’s elements come alive which is just the thing for one’s rejuvenation. The lodge’s isolation is hardly noticeable as it is cradled by serene surroundings of the Sossusvlei and the Sesriem and the quietness is a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the world.
The Sossusvlei Desert Lodge has ten luxury suites, each one of them tastefully designed. The rooms exude contemporary sophistication with their stone and glass themes in the bedrooms and bathrooms. A skylight above the bed lets you view the skies in the night; you can even get a closer look at them with your very own telescope. You can get a panoramic view of the desert as you bathe, because the bathrooms are panelled on all sides with glass. Outdoor showers for warmer days or nights, completely air conditioned rooms, fireplaces and personalised CD players emphasise the deluxe atmosphere of the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge.
Rooms aside, the lodge has a large swimming pool which is filled with water from an underwater spring. For the intellectually inclined tourists, the lodge has a library with an assorted collection of books and CDs. The lodge also has a shop which offers branded clothing and other products, including gifts and souvenirs. The Sossusvlei Desert Lodge has wonderful wining and dining options with their indoor as well as outdoor restaurants and bars. Tourists can select cuisines ranging from continental to traditional African food. The lodge has a walk in wine cellar and is stocked with Southern African and Namibian wines.
Once tourists have their fill of the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge’s multiple facilities, they can step out and engage in the activities provided by them. Guided nature walks, drives and quad-bike trips on the reserve are part of the lodge’s holiday package. A visit to the Sossusvlei is also possible, but it is generally not included in the overall package. This is an additional cost, but can be easily arranged. As you stretch your legs on your nature walks, it is quite normal to spot wildlife like Oryx, springbok, aardwolf, ostrich, hyena, bat-eared fox, Cape fox, Burchell’s Zebra and Hartman’s Mountain Zebra. Bird watchers will have a field day and one can spot more than hundred species of birds in the desert.
In short, the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge gives people privacy and comfort. The rooms are spaced out to maintain this feeling of privacy and tourists just have to kick back and recline in leisure. The few rooms keep the lodge exclusive; a crowd will only disrupt the hushed bliss lent by the Namib Desert.
