Namibia is situated in southern Africa and the country is bordered by Angola, Zambia, South Africa and Botswana. Windhoek is the capital of Namibia which is the largest city also. In earlier periods, the country was inhabited by Bushmen, Namaqua and Damara from 14th century AD. Namibia became the German protectorate in the year 1884 and till the end of WWI the country remained as the German colony. In the year 1915, Namibia came under the rule of South Africa by defeating the Germans during WWI. The country gained independence from South Africa in the year 1990. Namibia successfully finished its transition from the apartheid rule of White minority to a parliamentary democracy after the independence.

Namibia is a presidential democratic republic and President is both head of the state and head of the government. The executive power is held by the government and legislative power is vested on both government and bicameral parliament. Judiciary is independent from both executive and legislative powers. The economy of Namibia is closely related to South Africa. Tourism, mining manufacturing and agriculture are the largest economic sectors. The banking sector of the country is highly developed with modern technologies like cell phone banking, online banking etc.

The population of the country is 2.53 million and majority of the population are black Africans of Ovambo ethnicity. Other ethnic groups of the country are Herero, Himba, Damara, Bantu and Khoisan. Namibian Whites have the ancestry of Dutch, Portuguese, German, French and British. About 80% of the total population is Christians and among them 50% is Lutheran. About 10% of the people have indigenous beliefs and 3% of the population is following Islam. The religious beliefs of remaining people are not known. English is the official language of the country. Other languages spoken are Oshiwambo, German and Portuguese.

Windhoek, the capital of Namibia is bounded by Eros Mountains and the city offers pleasant restaurants, shopping options and great accommodations. The city also has tourist attractions such as national archives, National Library, National Art Gallery, National Botanical Garden and museums. Waterberg Plateu Park of Otjiwarongo is a popular destination. Etosha National Park in Namibia is one of the spectacular game parks of Africa which consists of various species of birds and other wildlife species. In the park you can find numerous springbok and protected animals like black rhino and black faced impala. Khaudum Game Park is the home of elephant herds, eland, roan, gemsbok, wild dog, lion, kudu and blue wildebeest.

Namib Desert is known as ‘the living desert’ as it consists of several living species. Walvis Bay is an activity center which consists of several water activities such as boat angling, shore angling, shark angling and sightseeing, sea kayaking, wind surfing, kite surfing and photographic boat cruises. Land activities of Namibia include Sandwich Harbour sightseeing tours, dune driving, dune hang gliding, desert sightseeing, quad biking tours to Kuiserb Delta and dune skiing. If you are interested in colonial architecture, you can go to seaside town of Swakopmund. Fish River Canyon is a famous tourist spot and it is the world’s second largest canyon.
