Category: Where To Stay in Mauritius
When it comes to hotels in the stunning island nation of Mauritius, only one word matters: luxury. The hotel industry has capitalized on the breathtaking beaches of Mauritius by making it a luxury holiday resorts, where the lucky and the rich can go to indulge in a little unspoilt perfection.
Mauritius plays host to some of the most stunning hotels in the entire world. These hotels are designed for comfort, opulence and grandeur, they offer everything, from your own pier onto the clear surrounding Indian Ocean to spacious golf courses.
Beachcomber Hotels, one of the leading hotel institutions in Mauritius, coined the phrase ‘Mauritian style’ during their first building project. The concept was to create luxury like never seen before, answering needs and fulfilling desires that holidaymakers were probably never even aware they had. The idea of ‘Mauritian style’ has continued, with most hotel chains adopting a similar approach.
‘Mauritian style’ in hotel-design is not just about big rooms and gourmet restaurants, it is more of an ideological concept than that. The general idea is to create hotels, grounds, swimming complexes and golf courses that don’t interfere with the natural beauty of Mauritius. Many designs are typically African in style, though thoroughly modernized, while many accompanying hotel restaurants lead right on to the beach and through natural forestry.
This, however, costs money. Although Mauritius does cater to the budget traveler, it is mainly through a series of hostels which vary little from standard hostel fare. Even these are more expensive than standard. There is very little option for those who wish for something in between the hostel-style accommodation and the expensive luxury resorts, though some two star hotels do offer nights beginning at around £50
Expensive really is the key word. For example, at the amazing One & Only Le Saint Geran, a typical Mauritius five star hotel, a one night stay will set you back around £900. And that’s off peak! During the high season, at the same hotel a two-bedroom villa will cost a staggering £4500 a day.
For this price, as one would expect, everything you could possibly desire is catered for. This doesn’t only apply to the One & Only Le Saint Geran. Many Mauritius hotels happily serve above and beyond in their facilities, with golf courses, private beaches, casinos and tennis courts a regular feature. There are also many hotels who offers scuba diving facilities and lessons, as the perfect way to explore the coral reefs surrounding the entire Mauritian coastline.
Yet this is what Mauritius is about; grandeur, luxury and meeting every need any traveler could possibly have. It may just be once in a lifetime, but any trip to Mauritius can only be complimented by it’s amazing array of hotels. As with anything, advance booking and comparing thoroughly can bring prices down, but in reality Mauritius can only truly be experienced in it’s full glory in one of it’s breathtaking five star hotels.
